Over the weekend, I read an article that broke my heart. As many know, Koreans are very much into education, which includes proficiency in English. In Korea, parents send their children to English pre-schools, English tutors, and other forms to learn English. Recently, children are undergoing surgery to cut the strip underneath your tongue to help in English pronunciation. WHAT?? EXCUSE ME. I am Korean-American and my first language to learn was Korean. So how in the fuck can you have your kid tied down to an operating table to have that piece sliced for a greater range of movement?
This saddened me greatly because the education system in Korea is SICK. Children study hard from such a young age without a real childhood so that they can get into the top schools. They go to school early morning to late night. Many students commit suicide because of the pressures to get into the best schools in Korea. This is sick. Korea needs to change their educational system because this national epidemic is harmful to everyone's lives there. I understand studying hard because of your hunger for knowledge, and I understand that English is used in many countries and is almost a universal language BUT cutting of the tongue shit is just unacceptable.

Hide those callouses!
Flip flops have made my summers wonderful. They have kept my feet breezy during those hot summer days when your feet decide it's time to sweat. But why do you wear them? I mean sure, they're comfy BUT they snap against the bottom of your feet, make a lot of noise, twist around, etc etc. Plus everyone knows the point of flip flops is to show off your toes, especially your pedicure. Since most men don't get pedicures done, they shouldn't be allowed to wear flip flops. I don't understand men and women who think it is alright to air out their feet when their toes look like rats nibbled on them, threw up, and nibbled again, and then dipped in acid and coated with horse shit. Like what the fuck!? Don't you hate when you see feet with really dry skin- skin so dry it's white? Just wanted to share that instead of paying attention to what my professor was saying in class, I was too distracted by my neighbor's nasty ass feet... and toes which he must have thought was alright to bend into a pretzel with his other toes.

The World Forgetting by the World Forgot

Alexander Pope's poem Eloisa to Abelard narrates the struggles and unfailing love between Eloisa and Abelard. I love this poem for its role in my favorite movie Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, starring Jim Carrey and Kate Winslet. Watch the movie if you haven't yet-- it is a must. It is a tale of two lovers who undergo a procedure to erase the other from their own memory; however, they try to fight back against being erased so that they may remember each other when they awake.
To forget is to live. I used to think life was about the memories but what good are memories when there is no one to share with or if they have lost its significance. It makes no sense to reflect on the past and think of the good times if they don't exist anymore or make you wanna hurl. This is a world forgetting by the world forgot.
